“My work engages the viewer in a narrative and is evocative of the pictorialist era with a modern twist.” Mary Anne Mitchell

Mary Anne Mitchell is a photographer from the USA, currently living in Atlanta, Georgia. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from University of Georgia.

Mary Anne Mitchell’s work is derived from her experiences and visual “dreams” that move her to create. Her work documents the world in a manner that transforms the subject into something quite different from reality.

Recently, Mary Anne Mitchell has completed a series called “Poetic Translation”

“With this series, I am exploring the artistic juxtaposition of visual and written expression. My inspiration is the writings of 19th and 20th century poets and writers. I am portraying my interpretation of the verses which touch upon the universal themes of nature, dreams, identity, loneliness, and spirituality. The photographs create a moment of shared recognition between the author, the viewer and myself.” Mary Anne Mitchell

Which photographer has inspired you most and why?

French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson is one of my favorites. He could create an amazing photograph out of a mundane situation and his black and white work is so beautiful.
